DID YOU ENJOY BOATING, FISHING AND SWIMMING IN SARATOGA LAKE LAST SUMMER? FUTURE RECREATIONAL USE MAY BE IN JEOPARDY!Dear Saratoga Lake Community Member, The Saratoga Lake Association (SLA) has reviewed information regarding the City of Saratoga Springs development of Saratoga Lake as a new water supply source with a proposed withdrawal of 11 Million Gallons per day from Saratoga Lake. It is essential that those of you interested in the impact of this proposed, dramatic and irreversible lake usage change, become involved and let your voice be heard. This proposed water withdrawal must meet environmental needs of present and future generations. SLA is very concerned that the proposed water withdrawal will affect the health, safety and recreational use of Saratoga Lake. Over the past fifteen years, hundreds of thousands of tax-payer dollars and volunteer hours have been spent to reclaim the Lake to meet the recreational needs of New York State residents. The NYS Boat Launch at the north end of Saratoga Lake and numerous private launches provide quality access to the Lake, resulting in a substantial asset to tax payers and to the economic development of the community, Saratoga County and to the State of New York. Presently, Saratoga Lake is experiencing extreme developmental pressure. Additional challenges to the Lake environment are made more serious as a result of this pressure. Therefore, we ask that you write your town and county supervisors and ask them to get involved and ensure that the City of Saratoga Springs development of Saratoga Lake as a new water supply source does not provide additional stress to our lake environment. Many thousands of residents and guests to Saratoga Lake will benefit from your efforts to assure that environmental justice prevails for Saratoga Lake. Time is running out to have our voices heard.
