| Well friends, you’ve heard all about it. The city is trying to take water from the lake, and we are going to stop them. This issue is going to be decided by the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and in a court of law.Unfortunately, litigation means money. We estimate the cost of attorneys and expert testimony to be $100,000 at a minimum. | ||||||||||
| This is our Tsunami folks. It’s our personal hurricane Katrina. I know you have all been generous in your support of the victims of these events, but now we have a crisis closer to home. | ||||||||||
| So what am we asking of you? We are asking each and every family to contribute a minimum of $250. Obviously, we would like you to be even more generous if it is at all possible. We are well aware that for many of us there are so many other expenses, and that paying $250 at one time may be a hardship. We are therefore asking that if you can’t make this contribution in one payment, you contribute in installments. If it is easier for you to pay $50 for 5 months, or $25 for 10 months, we will be happy to do the record keeping. | ||||||||||
| All the money collected for this purpose will be placed in a dedicated fund. If by some chance we do not use it all, we will come back to our membership and you will be the people who will decide what to do with the remaining funds. | ||||||||||
| We have undertaken the first steps in litigation against the City’s application to obtain a permit to develop Saratoga Lake as a water source, but we need all of our members to join in to defend the lake we love.
